Why Recycle Batteries and Light Bulbs
Batteries contain metals, liquids, and other materials that are flammable, toxic and hazardous to the environment if they are not handled and disposed of properly. Those materials can include lead, zinc, nickel-cadmium, sulfuric acid, mercury, plastic, lithium, and others.
Many kinds of light bulbs today – fluorescents, tube lights, and even neon signs – contain dangerous materials like mercury. Even the latest technology to take over the lighting industry – LED bulbs – contain metals, and small amounts of those metals are quite hazardous when they’re improperly dumped in landfills.
